Enterprise Architecture and Integration
3di Enterprise Architecture and Integration services enable business change by creating
flexible, manageable, cost-effective integration architectures. We design and implement
enterprise integration schemes to help businesses achieve:
- Reduced maintenance costs through standardisation;
- Reduced risk, through increased data quality;
- Increased agility, through de-coupling.
3di's expertise spans technology and integration paradigms, including:
- Event-Driven Architectures (real-time messaging using publish/subscribe, point-to-point,
hub-and-spoke, high-volume/low-latency);
- Service Oriented Architectures (including Web services);
- Enterprise Service Bus.
Design
3di take a value-driven approach to designing Enterprise Integration
Architectures, in order to ensure that implementation will deliver the desired outcomes.
Although technologies are a key factor in Architecture design we also concentrate
heavily on:
- The business case for implementing a new architecture
- Potential constraints to proposed solutions
- Existing processes and technical landscape
- Organisational capability to implement and adopt a new architecture
- Ways of measuring the benefits realised by a new architecture
Our experience in this field has led us to conclude that Integration Architecture
initiatives require considerable attention to the organisation, people and processes,
as well as technology, in order to be successful.
Data
The data element of Enterprise Architecture is often addressed
as an implementation problem. At 3di we believe that understanding and designing
for data is fundamental to most Architecture designs. After all, the identification,
storage, mapping and retrieval of an organisation's information is one of the
main purposes of most architectures.
As part of an Architecture engagement, typically we will undertake the following:
- Identification of key data elements establish Golden Sources of key data elements
- Verify Reference Data sources
- Create or specify data models in an appropriate format
- Mapping of data flows
Delivery
3di can provide invaluable input at any stage of an integration initiative, from
inception through to operational management of systems in a new architecture. We
do not consider that architecture should be an ivory tower exercise, since the only
real proof of an architectural design is whether it delivers its benefits, once
correctly implemented. As such we often operate at the “delivery” end
of architecture.
We specialise in delivering the benefits promised by Enterprise Architectures and
in managing the technical and organisation complexities that are part and parcel
of integration work. We can also provide the people and processes needed to achieve
the ROI that Enterprise Integration promises.
Experience
3di's expertise spans technology and integration paradigms, including:
- Event-Driven Architectures (real-time messaging using publish/subscribe, point-to-point,

- Service Oriented Architectures (including Web services);
- Enterprise Service Bus.
Engagements have included:
- Implementation of global message buses for distribution of price and trade-related
information;
- Use of web services to enhance traditional market data platforms;
- Architectural review and design of enterprise messaging solutions;
- Enabling cross-product and cross-business views of trading activity for risk management
and compliance.
- Design and implementation of STP architectures with Business Activity Monitoring
for operational management.
